Nestled within the popular Manuel Antonio lays a truly unique conservation opportunity, a wildlife refuge which protects 20.88 acres of secondary rainforest and holds potential to be a one of a kind tourism destination. The refuge currently provides various tours to visitors of Manuel Antonio, including a very popular night tour.
A 1,000 sq. ft. open air Butterfly Atrium featuring 25 species of butterflies, including the ever stunning Blue Morpho. As well as a research, caterpillar and cocoon observatory room. The atrium is a picturesque local for destination weddings and receptions.
Reptile, Amphibian Water Gardens and Crocodile Lagoon: Currently houses 5 Central American Crocodiles, a number of young Caimans, as well as turtles, in addition to the natural reptile and amphibian wildlife.
A documented 150 species of birds, Hoffman’s two-toed sloth, three-toed sloths, howler monkeys, white faced Capuchin monkeys and the protected Titi Squirrel monkey
A priceless investment feature for the property is the 11 quintas (lots) which have been planned out within the refuge, ranging from 5,000 m2 to 9,266 m2. This allows for the possibility to subdivide into a sustainable community focused on eco-sensitive building, may it be tree houses or open air living. Or one can get creative with a hospitality business, perhaps becoming the first glamping location in Southern Costa Rica, or a unique jungle hotel with pods built from sustainable materials.
A resident biologist oversees the projects within the refuge, which currently works along side Costa Rica’s environmental ministry (MINAE). The refuge has hosted studies in cooperation with INBio (Institute of Biology), the Corcovado Foundation, the Alliance for the Mono Titi, and the Latin University of Costa Rica, inclusive of housing students within the refuge as they study its biodiversity. The refuge also has a long standing local community educational program.
Located only a couple minutes from Playa Espadilla and the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park, which is one of the most visited parks in Costa Rica, the location of this property is unbeatable. Restaurants are within walking distance, shopping and local services are within minutes from the property.
This wildlife refuge is home to almost 50% of the local species of insects, reptiles, birds, mammals, amphibians, spiders, plants, and trees, meaning it is valuable is far beyond that of a normal property. The location and potential combined with its biodiversity make this a conservationist’s investment dream, something which can hold a legacy, yet has the possibility to generate a return.
