About the location
San Mateo is a beautiful town that lies at an elevation of 250 meters above the seal level with a population of about 3,000 people. The area is known for its pleasant warm weather with average temperatures of 27º degrees celsius (80º F) year around and not overly humid.
San Mateo is also recognized for its great soils for agriculture where you find production of rice, beans, corn, sugar cane and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
San Mateo is located just a couple of miles from Orotina city which has supermarkets, restaurants, banks, clinics, and all kinds of services. It's proximity to the coastal highway makes it the ideal commute to San Jose city as well as the coast (approximately 35 minutes from each one).
In March there is a fruit festival held in Orotina in which farmers from all over Costa Rica visit to exhibit and sell their fruits and vegetables. It is a cultural event that envolves concerts, rides, local and regional pottery, seminars and speeches about farming and growing techniques.
